A week-long program will introduce you to offshore wind through fun and exciting classroom STEM activities and field experiences.
There are 20 spots for students entering 10th grade through entering 12th grade!
As a student you will get:
- Stipend for program participation for each day x 5 days.
- Transportation stipend to cover round trip costs to get to and from MMA
A sleep-away experience being hosted at the beautiful waterfront campus of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy located at the head of Buzzards Bay in Bourne, MA.
Field trips will be supported by classroom learning based on the KidWind program, which will provide you with a foundational knowledge of wind energy, design and drafting principles, material sciences, and blade testing. Experiences during our 2024 Academy included guided tours of the facilities related to renewable energy at Mass Maritime, research labs in Woods Hole, a steel rolling facility in Middleboro, and the Wind Technology Testing Center in Boston.
The KidWind Offshore Wind Academy will get you started on the pathway to participating in KidWind Challenges in your community and ultimately participate in a regional challenge with other teams. Students who are successful with their turbine blade design model will have the opportunity to go on to the national KidWind Challenge, supported by the US Dept of Energy and held at the annual American Clean Energy Association conference.
